Truth be told, it was Dr B who spotted this one. It’s a Scarlet Elf Cup. It’s not a very good specimen, but it’s labelled in my mushroom-spotting book as ‘Widespread but occasional’, so I’m quite excited about it.
Other recent sightings: this fungus is called Cramp Balls and it grows on dead wood. Also known as King Alfred’s Cakes, because it looks like burnt buns:
And this is some kind of bracket, photographed from underneath, but without seeing what it looks like on the top, I can’t identify it for certain:
Last one for today: I don’t know what this is, but it was magnificent. It was growing on the same dead tree as the Cramp Balls above and it must have been 10cm across:
Howzat for a bit of fungus?!
(PS. If anyone can tell me what this is, I’d be very grateful. I’m assuming it’s some kind of bracket, but it doesn’t look like anything in the book.)
